In the first eight months of 2026, 92,930 companies were created in Spain, up 9% on the same period last year, according to INFORMA's Business Demography Study. The 8,150 incorporations recorded in August represent a slight increase on the 8,143 in the same month of 2025, and a 31% decline compared with July.
In the first eight months of 2026, 4,054 insolvency proceedings and 21,049 dissolutions were recorded in Spain, according to data on Insolvency proceedings and dissolutions compiled by INFORMA. These figures represent a 5.5% decline in insolvency processes and an 11% increase in dissolutions compared with the same period in 2025.
INFORMA has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, which sets out the organisation’s progress on environmental, social and governance matters. The document puts the overall level of compliance with its ESG scorecard at 93%, above the target set for the fiscal year, which was 92%.
The average payment delay for European businesses returned to a figure below 13 days, 12.95, in Q2 2026, according to INFORMA's European Business Payment Behaviour Study. This represents a fall of 0.20 days quarter over quarter, although it remains over half a day above the same period last year.

July’s 11,776 business creations were up 8% on the same month in 2025 and rose 2% compared with June, making it the fourth most active month of the year.

50.6% of Spanish business owners claim to have experienced at least one default in the past twelve months, according to the survey conducted
for the thirteenth edition of the “Business Payment Behaviour Analysis”, a major study on the payment situation in
businesses published by INFORMA. This percentage continues a
downward trend, by nearly 1 pp over the past year and more than 13 pp compared with the
64% reached in 2023. However, it remains above 2021, when it
stood at 43%.
In Spain, there are 520,505 shell companies (those which, despite being registered, have not published their accounts in the past two years despite being required to do so), according to INFORMA's Shell Companies Study.
