In the first eight months of 2026, 92,930 companies were created in Spain, up 9% on the same period last year, according to INFORMA's Business Demography Study. The 8,150 incorporations recorded in August represented a slight increase from the 8,143 in the same month of 2025, and a 31% decline compared with July.
Capital investment to launch these companies rose to 471 million euros in August, up 92% year over year, taking the cumulative figure to over €4.463 billion, 18.5% above the 2025 figure. The three companies incorporated in August with the highest investment were Occidental Royal Holdin SL (110 million euros), Gestión AR26 SL (42.5 million euros), and Aetheria Assets Holdings SL (20 million euros), located in the Balearic Islands, Granada and Seville respectively.
Nathalie Gianese, Director of Research at Informa D&B, states: “Year to date, nearly 93,000 companies have been created in Spain, a figure more than 9% higher than the incorporations recorded in the same period of 2025”.
Companies launched in August involved the appointment of 9,713 administrators, highlighting the existence of small governing bodies in Spain (with the sole administrator regime the most common). Women hold 23% of these positions.
In the High Technology sectors, 165 companies were created in August, down 6% on a year earlier, and the capital invested this month was close to 4 million euros, up 199% on 2025. Since January, incorporations in high-technology activities have reached 1,792, up 5%, representing 2% of the national total, and investment exceeds 50 million euros, an increase of 160%.
Year to date, Madrid leads business creations, with 20,257 new companies, 22% of the total. It is followed by Catalonia, with 18,202, nearly 20% of the total, and Andalusia, with 15,250, 16%. The largest absolute increases were recorded in the Valencian Community, up 1,727, Catalonia, up 1,554, and Madrid, up 1,236. Only Ceuta (-8) and Melilla (-20) saw their figures fall.
In August, Madrid also ranked first with 1,770 incorporations. It was followed once again by Catalonia, with 1,601, and Andalusia, with 1,364. The main monthly increases were in Galicia, up 44, and Andalusia, up 35.
As for paid-up capital, Madrid accounts for a quarter of the total year to date, at €1.102 billion, ahead of Catalonia, at 814 million euros, and Andalusia, at 683 million euros. The most significant absolute increase since January was in Madrid, up 455 million euros. In August, the Balearic Islands led the figures with 113 million euros of investment.
By sector, new companies were created mainly in Construction and Real Estate Activities, 23,849, Business Services, 14,140, and Trade, 13,273. Together they represent 55% of the total. The largest absolute growth was in the first of these, which added 1,871 incorporations. Figures fell only in Energy, down 19%.
In August, Construction and Real Estate Activities was also the sector with the most incorporations, at 2,058, down 6%. It was followed by Trade, with 1,189, and Business Services, with 1,202.
As for cumulative investment, Financial Intermediation reached €2.042 billion, 46% of the overall figure, ahead of Construction and Real Estate Activities, with €1.124 billion. Healthcare posted the largest decline, down 416 million euros. In August, Financial Intermediation once again received the most investment, at 297 million euros.
