A total of 520,000 companies have not published their accounts in the past two years

In Spain, there are 520,505 shell companies (those which, despite being registered, have not published their accounts in the past two years despite being required to do so), according to INFORMA's Shell Companies Study.

Spanish businesses recorded an average payment delay of 14.36 days in Q2 this year

The average payment delay for Spanish businesses reached 14.36 days in Q2 2026, slightly lower than the previous quarter, according to the Spanish Business Payment Behaviour Study published by INFORMA. It therefore remains above 14 days, a figure it had fallen below in the last quarter of 2025, although it is down by half a day year over year.

Business creations in Spain exceeded 73,000 in the first half of the year, up 11% on 2025

During the first half of 2026, 73,004 companies were incorporated in Spain, a figure representing an 11% increase on the same period last year, according to INFORMA's Business Demography Study .  The 11,504 business creations in June remained virtually stable compared with the same month in 2025, with a slight 0.4% decline, although they were 1% higher than those recorded in May.

Insolvency proceedings fell 5% in the first half of the year, while dissolutions rose 12%

In the first half of 2026, 3,382 insolvency proceedings and 17,436 dissolutions were recorded in Spain, according to the data on Insolvency proceedings and dissolutions compiled by INFORMA. These figures represent a 5% decline and a 12% increase, respectively, compared with the same period in 2025.

Seven hundred and eighty Spanish municipalities will be able to access a comprehensive snapshot of their business fabric

Understanding a municipality’s true economic potential is key to deciding where to invest, open a business or plan public policies. To facilitate this analysis, INFORMA has launched the Municipalities Report, a tool that provides a comprehensive view of a municipality’s business demographics and its economic and financial situation. It also allows comparisons with other municipalities with similar characteristics and an analysis of its relative weight within the province and autonomous community to which it belongs.

The Construction and Real Estate Activities sector has reduced its payment delay by over 20 days since 2010

Payment delays for businesses in the Construction and Real Estate Activities sector reached 13.68 days in Q1 2026, according to INFORMA's Business Payment Behaviour Study in the Construction and Real Estate Activities sector .

El número de empresas zombis se reduce un 27% desde 2023

En España existen 35.276 empresas zombis, cerca del 3% del total de empresas activas en nuestra base de datos, un 11% menos que en 2021, según el Estudio sobre Las empresas zombis en España realizado por INFORMA. Estas empresas no pueden cubrir sus costes financieros de forma persistente.

La creación de empresas sube un 13% en los cinco primeros meses del año

Entre enero y mayo de 2026 se han constituido 61.500 empresas en España, lo que supone un aumento del 13% respecto al mismo periodo del pasado año, según el Estudio sobre Demografía empresarial realizado por INFORMA.  En mayo se crearon 11.390 sociedades, cifra que desciende un 16% en el interanual y se queda un 4% por debajo de abril.
